
Michael Vick, jailed NFL Atlanta Falcons quarterback has a scheduled April 2 trial on 2 state felony dogfighting charges. Beating or killing or causing dogs to fight other dogs and engaging in or promoting gogfighting is also punishable by up to 5 years for each of the 2 state charges.
Vick is being held at a Warsaw, Va. jail after surrendering on November 19 to begin serving time for for federal convictions. He faces up to 5 years in prison when he is sentenced December 10 on the federal level. Bad Newz Kennels, the dogfighting operation had been operating since 2001 on Michael Vick's 15 acre property in Surry County Virginia. More than 50 pitbulls and equipment commonly used in dogfighting were found when drug investigators were seeking a Vick relative.
Michael Vick has been suspended from the NFL without pay and owes the Atlanta Falcons $20 million in bonus money.
