The Miami Dolphins football team ranks as one of the proudest franchises in the NFL. The Dolphins were founded by Joe Robbie in 1966 as a member of the AFL.  They enjoyed instant success when the AFL and NFL merged. Under Hall of Fame Don Shula’s coaching leadership, the Miami Dolphins played in three straight Super Bowls.

After falling short in Super Bowl VI against the Dallas Cowboys, the Miami Dolphins produced the greatest season in NFL history in 1972. The Dolphins returned to prominence in the 1980’s with superstar quarterback Dan Marino. In his second year, Marino threw for over 5,000 yards, capturing the NFL MVP and leading the Dolphins to the Super Bowl.

Since Marino’s retirement, the Miami Dolphins have not advanced beyond the divisional round of the playoffs.

Miami Dolphins Off Season Moves

Joey Porter linebacker was the Miami Dolphins big free agent acquisition. He was previously with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Leadership and explosiveness are brought to the defense with Porter. Trent Green was acquired as a veteran quarterback via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Leading receiver Wes Welker was traded to the New England Patriots. Randy McMichael, second leading receiver and tight end is also gone. Olindo Mare, long time kicker was traded to.

A clear sign that Coach Cameron knows what he is doing was to keep Dom Capers as defensive coordinator. With Cameron leading the way, the Dolphins should be a solid team for the foreseeable future.
