Notre Dame Football Tradition |

| Notre dame football has a storied history which boasts many long lasting traditions. These traditions are very unique to Notre Dame Football alone. One of these traditions even start days prior to the games. It is when students get together each week and paint all of the Notre Dame Football helmets with paint containing flakes of real gold. The morning before each game the coach and players dress in suits and attend mass at the Sacred Heart Basilica. The team then walks to stadium through a pathway created by thousands of fans lining the sidewalk. Then there is the "Play Like A Champion Today" sign each Notre Dame Football player slaps before they enter the field. When going on to field they always walk out together following their coach. At the beginning of the fourth quarter the crowd wave their hands shaping their fingers in the first initial of the coaches last name. My favorite tradition that the Notre Dame Football team has is after every home game the players run to the student section and raise their helmets as a salute to them. With a long history such as theirs I am sure they will start many more traditions. |
