In a move to protect the integrity of Canadian football, Canadian Senator Larry Campbell has put forward a bill to ban the sale of the NFL football ticket in Canada by preventing the NFL from playing any regular season games north of the border. According to a story printed in the National Post newspaper on June 12th of this year, Campbell's bill proposes the following new legislation, "The bill received its first reading on Tuesday, and it demands "no person owning or operating a football team within a foreign league shall require or permit that team to play football in Canada. It goes on to declare "no person shall play football within Canada as a player on a football team within a foreign league. Exhibition games are excluded." This move to ban the sale of the NFL football ticket for games played on Canadian soil comes in response to plans by the Buffalo Bills to play eight games in Canada over the next five years, a move seen by many as the first step to the Bills relocating north of the Border, possibly to Toronto. The idea of selling an NFL football ticket in Canada appears to threaten Canadian football, or else why would Campbell seek to ban the sale of the NFL football ticket for games played in Canada? Stay tuned for further developments on this story.
